How West Nile is Transmitted
The virus starts with a mosquito that contracts the virus from infected birds, and then transfers it to a person while feeding off them. While summer brings warm weather, picnics, and swimming in the afternoon – it also brings a swarm of mosquitoes. There have been reported cases in all 48 continental states, with numbers increasing over the last several years.

Web MD states that only 1 of every 150 cases may turn into Encephalitis and Meningitis, with only 10% of those cases being fatal. The CDC calls this a “neuroinvasive” form of West Nile. West Nile Meningitis symptoms include fever, headache, and a stiff neck. Symptoms of West Nile Encephalitis include paralysis or palsy of one or more limbs, tremors, fevers, and headaches.
